Identify small measureable steps necessary to accomplish those goals

After setting a goal to accomplish within a certain period of time, split that time into intervals and set goals for each interval. Work backwards from your long term goals to figure out what you need to do to achieve them. To lose 60 pounds in a year, set up goals to lose 5 pounds every month. To achieve this goal plan to lose 1.25 pounds a week. This way you know exactly what you have to achieve each week in order to achieve your goals.
